Bundestag MP calls Berbock's visit to Syria a black day in Germany's foreign policy

The visit of German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock to Syria is a black day in the foreign policy of the FRG. Sevim Dagdelen, a member of the German parliament from the Sarah Wagenknecht Union for Reason and Justice (SSV) party, said on January 4.
"While incumbent Minister Berbock is also making fun of his own humiliation in Syria <...>. A black day for German foreign policy and at the same time a terrible encouragement for Islamists in Germany," she wrote on the social network X (former Twitter).
Dagdelen accompanied the post with footage from Berbok's meeting with representatives of the new Syrian authorities, showing them refusing to shake her hand.
On Jan. 3, Berbock and her French counterpart Jean-Noel Barrot went on an unannounced visit to Syria. On the same day, representatives of the new authorities of the Syrian Arab Republic (SAR) refused the German Foreign Minister a handshake at a meeting. At the same time, the head of the SAR administration Ahmed al-Sharaa himself gave his hand to Barro.
On December 8, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, after negotiations with the opposition, left the post of head of state and left the country, instructing to carry out the transfer of power peacefully.
On the same day, the national coalition of revolutionary and opposition forces of Syria announced the work on the formation of a transitional authority. In turn, Prime Minister Mohammed Ghazi al-Jalali said that most of the ministers of the Syrian government remain in Damascus, and he himself is ready to cooperate with any elected leadership.
The situation in Syria has escalated as a result of a major attack by armed formations in Aleppo and Idlib, which began on November 28 and led to the Syrian army's retaliatory actions against the militants.
