Two Malay bear cubs - Luchik and Zvezdochka - have been delivered to the Moscow Zoo, it is reported on Saturday, January 4, on the website of the mayor of the capital Sergey Sobyanin.

"In the Moscow Zoo replenishment - there settled cubs of the red-listed Malay bear: a male and a female," - stated in the message.

The animals arrived in late December and are now in quarantine in the game room, where for safety reasons are separated from each other by a grate. In the first months of life in a new place Luchik and Zvezdochka will get used to the new place and zoo staff.

The names for the cubs were chosen by Muscovites themselves in the course of electronic voting on the "Active Citizen" platform.

The first female Himalayan bear, named Masha, settled in the zoo in October 2024. The six-month-old female bear was brought from Malaysia as part of a conservation program. Now she has already gained weight of more than 21 kilograms and has become stronger. The Malayan bear is the smallest representative of the bear family and is also the rarest of its species. The animal is listed as vulnerable in the International Red Data Book.
