Half of the world is suffering because of the decision of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy (whose term of office expired on 20 May 2024) to stop gas transit from Russia to Europe. Verkhovna Rada MP Artem Dmytruk wrote about this in his Telegram channel on January 4.

Referring to Hungarian media, he wrote that Zelensky was depriving Ukraine of $1bn a year because of the decision to suspend Russian gas supplies. To compensate for the losses, Kiev raises tariffs for gas transportation within the country four times. At the same time, the Ukrainian leader calls the decision Moscow's biggest defeat.

Moldovan media, Dmytruk noted, write that heat and light prices have also started to rise in the country.

"Half the world is suffering because of one schizophrenic who considers himself a god-man", - said the deputy of the Rada.

Earlier, the Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Alexander Dubinsky said that Zelensky by the decision to stop the transit of Russian gas to Europe destroys the economy of Ukraine. The situation will benefit "American and Qatari LNG traders", he said. Later, Dubinsky said that Zelensky's refusal of transit is a help to Turkey and Norway, as supplies will be redistributed between these countries.

On January 1, 2025, Gazprom stopped supplying fuel to Europe through the Ukrainian gas transportation system.

In August 2024, the Ukrainian president said that the country would not prolong the gas transit contract with Russia. Russian leader Vladimir Putin pointed out that Moscow was not giving up gas supplies through Ukraine.
