Two unmanned aerial vehicles of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) have been shot down over the Leningrad Region near the Luga Bay. This was reported by the governor of the region Alexander Drozdenko on January 4.

"A UAV was detected in the area of the Luga Bay of the Gulf of Finland. For countermeasures used forces and means of air defense of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. The drone was destroyed. There is no destruction and no casualties," he wrote in Telegram-channel.

Thus, the first UAV was shot down at 02:40 Moscow time, the second drone was destroyed at 9:39.

The Governor said that the drone was moving through the Pskov region.

Earlier in the day, the Russian Defense Ministry said that Russian air defense forces destroyed 16 Ukrainian biyespilots over five Russian regions overnight. Ten of them were shot down over the Bryansk region, three over the Smolensk region, and one UAV each was destroyed over the Belgorod, Pskov and Leningrad regions.

Ukrainian militants are trying to strike Russian territories against the background of the special operation in Donbass, the start of which was announced on February 24, 2022. The decision was taken due to the aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
