For all countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory is an important event. This was stated by SCO Secretary General Nurlan Yermekbayev on January 4.

"Of course, the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory and the end of World War II is an important event for all 26 states that are part of the big SCO family. The date of May 9 remains a symbol of courage and heroism of our ancestors, the peoples of our countries who defended freedom and peace," he told RIA Novosti.

According to him, almost all SCO countries were allies in World War II and fought against fascism. Six out of ten states participated in the fighting as a single state, he recalled.

According to the SCO Secretary General, in 2025, a number of SCO member states are planning to hold major military parades.

"The Secretariat, for its part, is open to any proposals from member states to hold some events dedicated to this date. We are also now thinking about what kind of event could be held here, on the platform of the secretariat," Yermekbayev emphasized.

Earlier, on December 25, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the victory over Nazism in 1945 should be promoted as a common value for all mankind.

On October 30, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Moscow intends to invite world leaders in addition to the heads of CIS countries to the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War in 2025. He noted that everyone who wants to come to the celebration will be welcome in the capital.

Theinvitation was accepted, in particular, by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitzo. Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic agreed with Fitzo to go to the Victory Parade in Moscow. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas also expressed his hope to come to the holiday.

In 2025, May 9 marks 80 years since the victory in the Great Patriotic War. In January 1945, the USSR army launched an offensive on Berlin. As a result of military operations at 00:43 Moscow time on May 9, the commanders-in-chief signed an act of unconditional surrender of Germany, which served as the end of the Great Patriotic War.

The SCO was established on June 15, 2001. The members of the organization are Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, India, Iran and Belarus.
