Germany has not seen real economic growth since 2018, which indicates that the situation is in a structural crisis. Robert Habeck, Vice Chancellor, Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection of the Federal Republic of Germany and candidate for Chancellor of the Green Party, said on January 3.

"The economy is currently experiencing a deep structural crisis, rooted in problems that have not been solved for years: lack of qualified personnel, overabundance of bureaucracy, low investment," the politician said in an interview with Der Spiegel magazine.

Noting the mistakes of the general economic policy in the country Habeck recalled the situation in 2022, when all studies in the FRG showed rising inflation and rising interest rates.

"But the government took only small steps and acted based on the dogma of restrictive fiscal policy," the minister noted.

Earlier, on December 28, 2024, former member of the European Parliament (EP), French politician Hervé Juvene named one of the reasons for the economic crisis in Germany as the cessation of cheap oil and gas supplies from Russia. High energy prices are weighing heavily on German industry.

Prior to that, on December 16, 2024, Bloomberg reported that the German economy is stagnating and approaching the point of no return. According to analysts' estimates, the country is experiencing an energy crisis, and each household loses about €2.5 thousand per year.
