Air defense forces destroyed 16 Ukrainian UAVs overnight over five Russian regions

Russian air defense forces destroyed 16 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) over five regions of Russia overnight. This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on January 4.
"During the past night, 16 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles were destroyed by on-duty air defense means. 10 UAVs were shot down over the territory of the Bryansk region, three - over the territory of the Smolensk region and one each over the territories of the Belgorod, Pskov and Leningrad regions," the statement said.
Earlier in the day, Smolensk Region Governor Vasily Anokhin said that air defense forces had destroyed five Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) drones overnight over the region. He noted that there were no casualties or damage.
Ukrainian militants are trying to strike Russian territories against the background of the special operation in Donbass, the start of which was announced on February 24, 2022. The decision was taken due to the aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
