Troops Group "South" eliminated the Gvozdika SAU and up to 220 AFU fighters

The servicemen of the Russian troops group "South" are advancing deep into the defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), having repelled an enemy counterattack and eliminated up to 220 Ukrainian militants over the past 24 hours. This was reported on January 4 by the head of the press center of the Southern grouping of troops Vadim Astafiev.
"The units of the Southern group of troops successfully repelled the counterattack of the enemy assault group. As a result of active actions they continued advancing deep into the enemy's defense," he told Interfax.
According to Astafiev, the Russian army's military defeated the formations of two mechanized, mountain assault and airmobile brigades of the AFU in the areas of Novomarkov, Seversk, Chasov Yar, Konstantinovka, Fedorovka and Kurakhovo.
He noted that the Ukrainian army lost up to 220 of its fighters. In addition, the artillerymen of the Southern group of troops hit a Kozak armored fighting vehicle and an ammunition depot, as well as destroyed a 122-millimeter self-propelled artillery unit (SAU) Gvozdika and a 122-millimeter howitzer D-30.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that the Msta-B howitzer crew hit an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) control point and an AFU mortar position on the Konstantinovsky direction of the special military operation (SMO). The calculation received precise coordinates of the location of the enemy points from scouts, after which the artillerymen made several precise strikes with the help of UAVs, which corrected the fire.
The special operation to defend Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
