Vilfand warned residents of four Russian districts of dangerous weather conditions

In the south of the European part of Russia and in Western Siberia, heavy rain, turning into snow, and a drop in temperature are expected, the situation is similar in the Kaliningrad region, in the center of European Russia there will be heavy icing. Roman Vilfand, scientific head of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center Roman Vilfand told TASS on January 4.

"In the south of European Russia, in Crimea and in Krasnodar Krai on Saturday and Sunday [it is expected] a noticeable drop in temperature, with negative values at night already: from plus 1 to minus 4 degrees," he said.

Vilfand pointed out that wind gusts of up to 22 meters per second, snow accumulation and icy conditions are also expected in Krasnodar Krai and Volgograd Region. In the south of Western Siberia and the Altai region, snow is expected, in some places - wind up to 25 m/s and snow drifts on the roads.

"But the situation on the Neva is calm, because the dam has been closed, waves from the Baltic Sea do not enter the Neva. But the situation in the Kaliningrad region is different: strong gusts of wind from the west can lead to the fact that the water level in the rivers will rise to unfavorable and even dangerous levels," - said Wilfand.

In addition, as noted by the forecaster, in Moscow, Kaluga, Ryazan and other regions of the Central Federal District (CFD) is expected very strong icing.

Earlier in the day, the Hydrometeorological Center predicted ice and light snow in Moscow. Southwest and south wind with a speed of 5-10 m/s is expected. Atmospheric pressure will be 736-737 mm of mercury column.

In addition, the scientific head of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center Roman Vilfand said on January 2 that heavy snow and wind are predicted in the regions of the Northwestern Federal District this week. He noted that heavy snow is expected in Karelia, Arkhangelsk, Vologda and Leningrad regions, while wet snow and rain are forecast in the Komi Republic and Kaliningrad region.
