Lawyer warns of new jury summons fraud scheme

Fraudsters are using a new scheme involving a fake invitation to allegedly participate in a jury panel. Lawyer Alexander Khaminsky, head of the law enforcement center in Moscow and Moscow region, told RIA Novosti on January 4.
Fraudsters write to citizens by e-mail or via messengers, often attaching active links. When going through them, the fraudsters gain access to passwords from various applications, including banking ones.
"Messages may come that a citizen has been selected for jury duty. At the same time, for non-appearance they promise the onset of administrative and criminal responsibility. In order to refuse this obligation, they also offer to click on the link in the summons to indicate the reasons for the impossibility of participation in the jury panel," - said Khaminskiy.
The lawyer advised Russians not to enter into a dialog with scammers . When receiving a call from an unfamiliar number, it is better to call back to the state body on the phone number, which is indicated on the official website.
Earlier, on January 2, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported on a new fraud scheme through the application for payment of housing and communal services. The Interior Ministry also urged people not to download applications obtained through dubious links and to check the e-mail addresses of websites before entering information about themselves.
