Englishman Littler became the youngest world darts champion at the age of 17


English athlete Luke Littler at the age of 17 took first place in the World Darts Championship. The final of the competition was held in London on the night of January 4.
World number four Littler defeated three-time world champion and third-ranked Michael van Gerwen of the Netherlands 7-3. The final match was played in 13 sets.
Thus the Englishman became the youngest world darts champion. Previously, this title belonged to the Dutch athlete, who at the age of 24 won the tournament in 2014.
The total prize fund of the tournament amounted to £ 2.5 million, Littler earned £ 500 thousand. The winner of the last tournament was Englishman Luke Humphries, who defeated Littler in the final.
Earlier, on January 1, it became known that the first place at the World Blitz Championship was shared between Russian chess player Jan Nepomnyashchy and his rival from Norway Magnus Carlsen. In the final match Nepomnyashchy and Carlsen won two games each, and there were draws in the additional games. The Norwegian chess player offered his rival to share the first place of the tournament. Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Nepomnyashchy on his victory at the World Blitz Championship.
