The Investigative Committee of Latvia has opened a criminal case over the death of basketball player Janis Timma, the former husband of singer Anna Sedokova. This was reported by a source of Izvestia on January 3.

According to him, the case was initiated "on the fact of violent death".

A friend of the basketball player Mark Pugachev also said that he acts as a key witness in the case.

"Today the Investigative Committee of the Republic opened a criminal case on the fact of violent death of Yanis, in which I act as one of the main witnesses," he wrote on his Instagram page (owned by the organization Meta, recognized in Russia as extremist and banned).

Pugachev added that after finding out all the circumstances, those involved in Timma's death will be summoned for questioning in Latvia.

"If the person does not arrive, he will be put on the wanted list, and then internationally," he added.

Timma 's death became known on December 17. It is noted that on his phone there was a screensaver with the inscription "Call Anna" and her phone number. The day before, he in social networks congratulated Sedokova on her birthday.

The body of the basketball player was taken to Latvia for burial on December 25. Sedokova noted that she, together with members of Timma's family, is trying to "decently organize a farewell" to him of all relatives and friends. The farewell to Janis took place in Riga on December 27. The funeral ceremony was held in the building of the crematorium.

Before that, in October, it became known that Sedokova officially filed for divorce from Timma. They got married in September 2020. For the singer, this marriage was the third, for the athlete - the second. They have no children in common.
