Farmers in Poland announced a protest action in front of the EC office

Representatives of the agricultural sector in Poland on January 3 went on a protest rally in front of the European Commission (EC) building in Warsaw.
It is reported that several thousand people under the slogan "Five times no" protested against imports of agricultural products from Ukraine, Europe's environmental regulations, and the decline of the Polish economy.
"All agricultural organizations that we have in our country are protesting against the harmful policies of the European Union, against [EC head] Ursula von der Leyen, who is imposing these policies that will force our farms to close," RIA Novosti reports a statement by Tomasz Okanski, head of the Solidarity individual farmers' union, who addressed the protesters.
According to the publication's correspondent, some protesters, who are against the country's ruling party, came with placards reading "Donald [Tusk], go home to Berlin."
Representatives of the Warsaw police noted that because of the protest action, traffic on some streets in the city center was blocked.
Back in August 2024, Marian Sikora, chairman of the Polish Federation of Sectoral Associations of Agricultural Producers, said that Poland was concerned that the €400m funding allocated to European farmers could be redirected to help Ukraine. Sikora said that despite its solidarity with Ukraine, the EU finds it unacceptable that the support could come at the expense of European farmers.
All checkpoints on the border between Ukraine and Poland were unblocked on April 29, 2024 after a month-long blockade. At the same time, the passage of trucks carrying Ukrainian grain into Polish territory was still restricted. However, the protests continued next month. On May 13, farmers went on hunger strike in the building of the Polish Parliament until Prime Minister Donald Tusk meets with them.
At the same time, in June, protesting farmers again blocked the Rawa-Russkaja - Grebenne point for trucks. Some time later, the checkpoint was reopened for travel in both directions.
