Hostage-taker at prison in southern France detained

In France, a prisoner, who held five hostages in the prison in the city of Arles, surrendered to the authorities. This was reported by CNews TV channel on January 3.

According to the channel, the captor was a 37-year-old man, serving time for rape since 2023.

It is also specified that the prisoner had pronounced mental health problems.

The incident occurred earlier in the day in the central prison of the commune of Arles in the south of France. The prisoner took five people hostage - four medical staff and a guard.
