Spaniard Francis Cahigao appointed as director of FC Spartak


Spaniard Francis Cahigao has become the new sports director of the Moscow soccer club Spartak. This was reported on January 3 by the press service of the team.
"The 55-year-old Spanish specialist has already started work," - noted on the team's website.
Cahigao was born in London. Played as a midfielder for the youth league of English FC Arsenal and for the second team of Spanish Barcelona. He was also called up to the Spanish national team. However, his sporting career quickly ended due to injuries.
He later joined his native Arsenal from 1997 to 2020, where he was the head of international scouting. Afterwards, he was also technical director of the Chilean Football Federation, and from 2024 he was head of international relations and scouting at Turkish side Galatasaray.
Spartak's previous sporting director, Portuguese Tomas Amaral, left the post in November 2024 by agreement of the parties. He held this position since December 2023, notes "Sport-Express".
Earlier, on December 18, it was reported that Nikolai Olenev left the post of General Director of FC Khimki near Moscow. In the press service of the team thanked him for the joint work and wished him new successes. Olenev held this position since September 2022. Dmitry Brekhov, who was previously Olenev's deputy, was appointed as the team's new general director.
