Lukashenko announces visit to China to work out partnership policy


On January 3, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko announced a visit to China to work out a partnership policy at a meeting with his confidants.
The head of the republic invited the heads of the country's regions to the meeting to talk about the organization of the upcoming presidential election. During the meeting, he also emphasized that he would visit China before the voting in Belarus.
"There is an invitation from the Chinese leadership to visit China. It is necessary to meet with the Chinese leadership to determine our future policy for the future. This is one of our strategic partners," Lukashenko said. His words are quoted by BelTA agency.
In addition, the Belarusian president emphasized the importance of building cooperation with China.
"Such visits, which can't be refused. Because this is the future of our state. What is a meeting with [Chinese President] Xi Jinping and a visit to China? This is the future of our country. Cooperation with China is a great thing," said the head of state.
Presidential elections in Belarus will be held on January 26.
Last time Lukashenko paid an official visit to China in late February 2023. Then, following his meeting with the PRC President, a joint statement on the basic principles of the development of exemplary relations of comprehensive strategic partnership between Belarus and China was adopted.
The joint statement said that the two states would deepen defense cooperation and fight terrorism. In addition, Belarus supported the shared values of peace, development, equality, justice, democracy and freedom proposed by China. The two sides agreed to jointly support the international system, with the UN at its core, and adhere to the basic norms of international relations.
