- The Federal Service for the Federal Security Service said that it would be possible to collect debts in digital rubles from January 1

From January 1, 2025, according to the adopted law, bailiffs have the opportunity to collect debts from citizens and organizations in digital rubles. This was told on January 3 in the Federal Bailiff Service (FSBP) of Russia.
"The federal law of July 24, 2023 introduced amendments regulating the procedure of foreclosure on the debtor's digital rubles. The provisions of the law establishing the procedure for arrest and foreclosure of digital rubles began to take effect on January 1, 2025," TASS quoted the agency as saying.
The law "On Enforcement Proceedings" provides that it will be possible to collect debts in digital rubles if the debtor does not have enough funds in rubles, foreign currency or precious metals on his accounts or deposits in banks.
For this purpose, the operator of the digital ruble platform will transfer digital rubles in the amount of the debt to the deposit account of the Federal Bailiff Service after the bailiff's appeal, Gazeta.Ru notes.
Before that, on November 29, 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law that regulates the taxation of digital currency. According to it, digital currency is considered as property. It also applies to currency used in international trade under the experimental legal regime (EPR) for digital innovations. In addition, the mining and sale of digital currency is not subject to VAT.
In the same month it was reported that IEs and legal entities will be able to engage in cryptocurrency mining only after inclusion in a special register. It will be maintained by the Federal Tax Service. Citizens will mine without this, but only within the limit of electricity consumption, which will be set by the government.
