Tokayev called Putin an experienced statesman

Russian President Vladimir Putin is an experienced statesman who well understands the specifics of Kazakhstan and its importance to the economic situation in Central Asia. This was stated by the President of the country Kasym-Jomart Tokayev on January 3.

"President Putin is an experienced statesman, well understands the specifics of Kazakhstan and the great importance of our country as the largest economy in the Central Asian region. Therefore, Russia is most actively working with Kazakhstan to develop trade, economic and investment cooperation," the Kazakh leader said in an interview with Ana Tili newspaper.

Speaking about the Russian leader's visit to Astana last November, Tokayev said he spent four hours talking with Putin in an informal setting. This format of communication allowed to strengthen mutual understanding on topical issues of bilateral cooperation and international agenda.

"I was given explanations about Kazakhstan's multifaceted foreign policy, our firm commitment to the development of strategic partnership and allied relations with Russia," he said.

Earlier, Putin paid a two-day visit to Kazakhstan on November 27 and 28, 2024. During it, Russian-Kazakhstani delegation talks were held, during which the head of state noted the dynamic development of bilateral relations, which are both business and friendly in nature. Tokayev, in turn, emphasized that Astana was and remains a reliable strategic partner and ally of Moscow.

In addition, the Russian leader said the creation of the first nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan was discussed within the framework of the Astana talks. Putin emphasized that cooperation between Russia and Kazakhstan in this direction is possible, noting that the final decision always remains with the customer.

Later, December 12, Russian Federation Council Chairwoman Valentina Matvienko also visited Astana. During the meeting with her, Tokayev noted that he was very optimistic about the prospects for Russian-Kazakh cooperation. The meeting touched upon issues of trade and economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation.
