The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) intercepted a rocket fired from Yemeni territory. The army's press office said on January 3.

"After sirens sounded in central and southern Israel, a rocket that was launched from Yemen and crossed Israeli territory was intercepted," the IDF said in a message on its Telegram channel.

The Israeli army added that fragments of the missile fell in the area of Modiin in central Israel.

Earlier, on December 26, The Time of Israel reported that the Israeli Air Force (IAF) carried out a series of massive strikes on Yemen. It was specified that the airbase and airport in the north of Sana'a were hit. The port of Hodeidah in the west of the country was also attacked. Al Mayadeen TV later reported that three people were killed and 11 injured after an IDF airstrike on Sana'a International Airport in Yemen, among the injured was the assistant captain of a United Nations (UN) plane.

On December 21, it was reported that Yemen launched a strike on Tel Aviv that injured 30 people. The IDF launched an investigation into the reasons for the failure to intercept a missile launched from Yemen.

Prior to that, on December 19, Yahya Sari, a military spokesman for Yemen's Ansar Allah (Houthis) movement, said that the missile forces carried out a drone attack on a target located in Tel Aviv. He emphasized that the Houthis will stop their attacks the moment Israel's aggression in the Gaza Strip stops.

The situation in the Middle East escalated on the morning of October 7, 2023, when the Palestinian radical movement Hamas subjected Israel's territory to a massive rocket attack from the Gaza Strip. On the same day, Israel began retaliatory strikes.
