Sailors complained about GPS signal failures in the Baltic Sea and northern Poland, which prevents them from choosing the right course. RMF FM radio station reported on January 2.

"Satellite compasses, even radar: nothing works," one of the sailors told the radio station's correspondent.

As specified in the publication, problems with GPS noticed in Finland, in the north of Poland and in the waters of the Baltic. Navigation on their ships does not work, because of which sailors are often forced to use an ordinary compass to get to port.

"More and more often we have to go back to traditional methods of navigation. The most important is the traditional compass, and we should use it, as Magellan used," - said the sailor in conversation with the correspondent.

Earlier, on November 7, it became known that in the east of Finland, two airports bordering Russia, switched to a radio navigation system because of interference with GPS. It was noted that the outdated DME device (omnidirectional range beacon, RMD) was used back in the 1960s. Joensuu and Savonlinna airports had to put it back into service in September 2024.
