- The Russian Defense Ministry reported on the feats of Russian fighters in the special operation zone

On January 3, the Russian Defense Ministry reported on the exploits of Russian army servicemen in the zone of the special military operation (SMO).
The ministry noted the actions of Sergei Averyanov, who, moving along the route as part of the head patrol, was able to detect two unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of the militants of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), who were conducting aerial reconnaissance and trying to find the route of the column of Russian fighters.
Averyanov navigated the situation, calculated the approximate distance to the target and fired two accurate shots. Thanks to this, the drones were shot down and the AFU fighters were unable to find the location and path of the column of Russian soldiers.
In addition, the ministry spoke about the merits of junior sergeant Roman Dorokhin, who performed logistics tasks for battalion tactical groups of the Russian army. He made numerous trips to areas that were located in close proximity to the front line. Dorokhin traveled at night and advanced stealthily with his headlights off.
Thanks to his professional actions during his participation in the SVO more than 100 tons of cargoes were timely delivered to the front line. Dorokhin was also engaged in transportation of wounded from the front line to hospitals.
Earlier, on January 1, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that Buk-M2 anti-aircraft missile systems of the Dnepr group of troops destroyed a Ukrainian UAV in the Kakhovka area in Kherson Region. While on combat duty, a Buk-M2 SAM system detected and escorted an enemy aerial target. The artillerymen launched an anti-aircraft guided missile and hit the target, which was conducting aerial reconnaissance of the positions of the Russian Armed Forces troops.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the aggravated situation in the region.
