FBI says New Orleans crowd attacker linked to IS


A man who ran over a crowd of people in New Orleans with a truck joined IS ("Islamic State", a terrorist group banned in Russia) in the summer of 2024 and acted alone during the attack. The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) said on January 2.
"We do not believe anyone else was involved in the attack in New Orleans. <...> He (the attacker. - Ed.) joined the IS earlier this summer," TASS reports the words of Deputy Assistant Director of the FBI Christopher Rye.
In addition, the agency noted that they see no connection between the terrorist attacks in New Orleans and Las Vegas.
On New Year's Eve in New Orleans, a truck struck a crowd of people on Bourbon Street, then the driver got out and started shooting. Law enforcement returned fire and eliminated him. According to the latest reports, at least 14 people were killed and 35 others were injured. The FBI specified that two police officers were wounded in the shooting, and explosive devices were found at the scene of the tragedy.
