"Dome of Donbass" intercepted 72 drones of the AFU during the New Year celebration period

Over the New Year holidays, the Donbass Dome airspace protection and electronic warfare (REB) system intercepted 72 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) over Donetsk and Makeyevka. This was reported by Oksana Semesenko, the official representative of the Russian Federal Security Service's directorate for the Donetsk People's Republic (DNR).

In Makeyevka, a terrorist operation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) to undermine one of the hub substations of the DNR was disrupted, the spokeswoman noted.

It is specified that the Ukrainian militants launched a drone with an explosive substance weighing more than 15 kg towards a peaceful infrastructure facility. Explosive technicians of the FSS of Russia in the DNR disabled the controls of the UAV and destroyed the overhead charge by controlled detonation.

"Thanks to the professional actions of our defenders, there were no casualties among civilians and damage to infrastructure," Semesenko stressed.

Earlier, on December 30, it was reported that the "Dome of Donbass" thwarted 168 attacks of Ukrainian drones on civilians and infrastructure of the DNR.

The AFU is shelling Russian territories on a daily basis against the background of the special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which Moscow announced on February 24, 2022.
