Turkey is in favor of an immediate cease-fire in Ukraine. This was announced by the country's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan at a press conference in Ankara on January 2.

"We [with Belgian Foreign Minister Bernard Quentin] discussed regional topics, including Ukraine. We of course want an immediate ceasefire and peace in Ukraine. This [conflict] should end as soon as possible," he said.

Earlier, on December 27, it was reported that soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) hope for a ceasefire with Russia in 2025. One of the military noted that the fighters in his unit are exhausted and expressed hope that the inauguration of the newly elected US President Donald Trump will be a turning point in the Ukrainian conflict towards negotiations.

The day before, it was reported that residents of Western European countries have become less likely to support Ukraine "until the victorious end" over the past year . It noted that in Germany, France, the UK, Italy, Spain, Sweden and Denmark, the willingness to support Ukraine significantly decreased from February to December.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
