Su-35S fighter jets provided air cover for VKS crews in the Kursk border area


Crews of Su-35S multipurpose super-maneuverable fighter jets with controlled thrust vectoring of the Russian Air and Space Forces (VKS) have performed air cover for VKS crews in the border areas of the Kursk Region. This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on January 2.
"In the course of combat missions, the crews of Su-35S multipurpose fighters practiced air cover in the specified area of operations of bomber and attack aircraft, as well as helicopters of army aviation in the course of air strikes on armored vehicles and personnel of the AFU (Armed Forces of Ukraine. - Ed.)," the ministry said in a statement.
It added that with the help of a complex of aviation weapons the aircraft performed the detection of objects of the enemy's air defense.
Earlier in the day, the Defense Ministry reported that the AFU for the day lost more than 580 military in the Kursk direction. It was specified that for the entire time of hostilities in this direction, the Ukrainian army lost over 47 thousand fighters.
The AFU attacked the positions of the Russian Federation in the border areas of Kursk region on August 6, 2024. The situation in the region was recognized as a state of emergency of federal character. The liquidation of the Ukrainian militants who invaded the Russian territory is underway.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
