Montenegrin PM to call urgent Security Council meeting over shooting in Cetinje

Montenegrin Prime Minister Milojko Spajic will hold an extraordinary meeting of the National Security Council on January 3, which will consider, among other things, the initiative to conduct activities in the country to seize weapons from the population. This follows a statement published on January 2 on the government website.
"On the occasion of the tragic event that took place yesterday in Cetinje, Prime Minister Milojko Spajic has scheduled an extraordinary meeting of the National Security Council tomorrow, January 3. On the agenda will be the initiative to conduct emergency actions in all cities of Montenegro in order to detect and seize illegal weapons, as well as to announce a public competition for the recruitment of new police officers in order to strengthen the capacity of security institutions," reads the report.
In addition, the meeting will discuss the need to adopt a new law on weapons, which would provide for stricter control and license requirements for their storage and carrying.
On the evening of January 1 in the Montenegrin town of Cetinje, a man opened fire on people in a catering establishment. According to the latest information, 12 people were killed, among them two children. Later, the country's Interior Ministry reported that the suspect died during transportation to the hospital.
The country declared three days of mourning after the shooting in Cetinje. The Prime Minister of Montenegro also allowed consideration of a ban on gun ownership in connection with the incident.
