A criminal case has been opened after the murder of an eight-year-old child in St. Petersburg. This was reported in the main investigative department of the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia in the city on January 2.

"The Investigative Department for the Central district of the Main Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the city of St. Petersburg initiated a criminal case under paragraph "c" of part 2 of article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (murder of a minor)," - said in the Telegram-channel of the department.

According to preliminary data of the investigation, the woman killed her eight-year-old son on the night of January 2, after which she died herself, having fallen out of the apartment window.

The Department of the IC noted that the circumstances of the incident are being clarified.

The suspect in the case is the babies' father.

Earlier in the day it was reported that a woman strangled her child in St. Petersburg and fell out of the window. According to the source of "Izvestiya", the incident occurred while the boy's father was at work.
