In Ukraine's Transcarpathian Region, men who hid in garbage bins have been detained by border guards. This was reported on January 2 by the Ukrainian edition "Strana.ua".

"A resident of Tyachiv district of Zakarpattia region was supposed to transport the men through the checkpoint on a cart under a pile of garbage, but they were spotted," the publication said.

According to "Gazeta.Ru", the men, who evaded conscription into the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) and paid $4.5 thousand for their escape, were detained by border guards.

Earlier, on November 23 last year, Ukrainian border guards detained four evaders who paid $10 thousand to a guide and tried to swim across the Tisa River on an inflatable boat.

Before that, on October 16, women in Transcarpathia tried to overturn the bus of military officers - they started pushing and rocking it. The vehicle still managed to drive away, but the women threw stones after it.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (his term of office expired in May 2024) signed the law on toughening mobilization on April 16. The document lists the categories of citizens who are subject to conscription. In addition, it toughens penalties for evading service in the AFU, but there are no provisions on demobilization.

Martial law in Ukraine has been in effect since February 2022. Later, the Verkhovna Rada repeatedly extended it. Most men aged between 18 and 60 are banned from leaving the country.
