The AFU lost more than 580 soldiers on the Kursk direction over the day

The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) have lost more than 580 soldiers in the Kursk region over the past 24 hours. This was reported in the Russian Defense Ministry on January 2.

"Over the day the losses of the AFU amounted to more than 580 servicemen, a tank, an armored personnel carrier, nine armored fighting vehicles, two artillery pieces, an anti-aircraft installation and 36 vehicles were destroyed," the ministry said in a statement.

It was specified that for all the time of fighting in this direction, the Ukrainian army has lost more than 47 thousand militants.

Earlier in the day, the calculation of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) of the reconnaissance division of the artillery unit of the Russian paratroopers destroyed three tanks of the AFU in the border areas of the Kursk region. It was specified that FPV drones with fiber optic wire control were used for the attack. The paratroopers destroyed two Soviet-made tanks and one NATO-made tank.

The AFU attacked Russian positions in the border areas of the Kursk region on August 6, 2024. The situation in the region was recognized as a state of emergency of federal character. The liquidation of the Ukrainian militants who invaded the Russian territory is underway.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
