Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter regretted the boycott of the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. This was reported by the Associated Press (AP) on January 2.

According to the agency's material, because of this decision, American athletes were deprived of Olympic glory and receiving deserved awards.

It is also noted that Carter for 40 years experienced the consequences of his decision, which began to be seen as an unsuccessful policy in the sports sphere.

On January 4, 1979, the 39th President of the United States Carter took the initiative to boycott the Olympics. The decision was supported in Canada and Great Britain, recalled "Gazeta.Ru". The initiative of non-participation of the American Olympic team was approved in April 1980.

Earlier, December 30, 2024, it became known that the former U.S. President Jimmy Carter died at the age of 100 years. Carter entered hospice at home in February 2023 in Plains, Georgia, after a series of short hospitalizations.
