Air defense systems shot down a Ukrainian Su-27 aircraft in the SFE zone


Russian air defense forces have shot down a Su-27 aircraft of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the zone of the special military operation. This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on January 2.
"Air defense means shot down a Su-27 aircraft of the Ukrainian Air Force, six rockets of the US-made HIMARS multiple launch rocket system, as well as 97 unmanned aerial vehicles of the aircraft type," the ministry said in a statement.
In total, since the beginning of the special operation, the Russian Armed Forces have destroyed 651 aircraft of the Ukrainian army, 283 helicopters, as well as 39,144 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
Earlier in the day, the Russian Defense Ministry said that air defense forces destroyed 13 Ukrainian drones over five Russian regions. It is specified that three drones were eliminated over the Belgorod region, four each over the Voronezh and Kursk regions and one each over the Voronezh and Kaluga regions.
Before that, on December 28 last year, the Russian army hit the infrastructure of a military airfield and a fuel and lubricants depot of the AFU with attack drones and missile forces.
The special operation to protect Donbass, which the Russian Federation announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
