Vilfand predicted heavy snow and wind in the Northwestern District

Heavy snow and wind are forecast in the regions of the Northwestern Federal District this week. This was reported on January 2 by Roman Vilfand, scientific head of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center.
"Cyclones, which are moving from the north of Moscow, lead to the formation of strong winds, which are typical for the Leningrad, Murmansk and Kaliningrad regions as well," he said in a conversation with TASS.
Vilfand added that heavy snow is expected in Karelia, Arkhangelsk, Vologda and Leningrad regions, while wet snow and rain are forecast in the Komi Republic and Kaliningrad region.
In addition, according to the expert, in the east of the Baltic Sea, the height of waves may be from 3 to 5 meters with wind strengthening up to 22-28 m/s on the coast.
Earlier, on December 27 last year, Vilfand predicted that the temperature norm will be exceeded in the Urals and Western Siberia in January. He noted that negative anomalies are expected only in the Asian part of the country.
