In 2025, it is necessary to stabilize the international situation and restore peace. This was stated by Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya on January 2.

"This is the year in which we will do our best. Calm down, stabilize and restore peace. It must be done," he noted in an interview with NHK TV channel.

According to the minister, 2024 was the year when the international order was badly shaken.

Takeshi Iwaya also added that Japan and the US will work together as allies in 2025 to protect the international order after the inauguration of US President-elect Donald Trump.

"For a free and open Indo-Pacific region and for the entire international order, the structure of the Japan-US alliance is a public good," he emphasized.

The foreign minister also expressed hope for building good relations between the countries and particularly between Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba and Trump.

Earlier, on December 9, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko said that Russian authorities do not want NATO expansion into Asian countries and hope that the region will preserve its own identity.

On Nov. 11, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov pointed out that NATO was extending its influence to the Asia-Pacific region under the guise of ensuring the security of its members. In the same month, the minister drew attention to the fact that the U.S. continues to introduce NATO infrastructure into the waters of the Pacific Ocean.

Prior to that, on September 10, U.S. Secretary of the Army Kristin Warmuth said that the United States was interested in deploying land-based medium- and short-range missiles in Japan.
