Dmitry Gulyaev, Dom.ru's director for Internet products, spoke about the signs of a home router hack on January 2.

"As a rule, the Internet speed drops immediately. Although this does not always indicate a router hack and can be caused by many other reasons, but if there are additional problems, it is a cause for alarm," the expert said in an interview with Sputnik radio.

Gulyaev also emphasized that a large number of pop-up windows on devices connected to the router and frequent redirection to other sites may indicate hacking. According to him, it is worth paying attention to the presence of suspicious devices in the router's log, as well as the inability to enter the administrator's settings.

In addition, the expert told about the necessary actions in case of hacking. He emphasized that first of all you need to disconnect the device from the Internet and reset the router settings.

"Set a new password - it is best to use a more complex combination of letters and numbers, which can be created also with the help of a password generator. Install antivirus software," Gusev added.

Earlier, on December 21, Sergey Evtushenko, director of the DIS Group consulting division, told how to protect devices from cyber threats. He noted that individual users should always use multi-factor authentication to access their accounts. And for businesses, he said, the key step to protecting data is to implement a comprehensive cybersecurity strategy: regular software updates, implementation of encryption technologies and comprehensive risk assessment.
