Former State Duma deputy Viktor Alksnis died at the age of 75. This was announced on January 1 by the daughter of the former Deputy Irina Alksnis.
"On the night of December 30, Daddy had a hemorrhagic stroke, he immediately fell into a deep coma. Huge thanks to the doctors, nurses and all the staff of the vascular intensive care unit of the Mytishchi regional clinical hospital, where Dad spent the last three days," she wrote in her father's Telegram channel.
Irina added that she would later provide information about the funeral. According to her, there is no need for financial assistance to the family.
Viktor Alksnis was a people's deputy of the USSR from 1989 to 1991. In the 1990s, some media outlets nicknamed him "Black Colonel," accusing him of wanting to stage a military coup. The deputy opposed the collapse of the USSR.
From 2000 to 2007, Alksnis was a deputy of the State Duma, and from 2013 to 2015 he headed the Tuchkovo settlement in the Moscow region.
