Shamsud-Din Bahar Jabbar is suspected in the collision of a truck with pedestrians in New Orleans in the United States. This was reported by The New York Times on January 1 with reference to the FBI statement.

According to the agency, the suspect is a 42-year-old US citizen from Texas. Previously, he served in the U.S. Army for many years.

In addition, he has already been charged with two minor offenses. In 2002, he was arrested for theft and in 2005, he was arrested for driving with an invalid license.

On New Year's Eve in New Orleans, a truck struck a crowd of people on Bourbon Street, then the driver got out and started shooting. Law enforcement returned fire and eliminated him. According to the latest reports, at least 10 people were killed and 35 others were injured.

The FBI specified that two police officers were wounded in the shooting, and explosive devices were found at the scene of the tragedy. It is preliminarily established that most of the victims are locals, not tourists. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Russians, tentatively, were not hurt in the incident in New Orleans.

US President-elect Donald Trump called the incident "an act of pure evil." He also noted that his administration would give full support to New Orleans in the investigation.
