A Polish soldier opened fire in a public place in the village of Melnik, which is located in eastern Poland, a few kilometers from the border with Belarus. This was reported on January 1 by Polsat News TV channel with reference to the police and the operational command of the Polish army.

"We received this information by emergency phone at about 15:30 (17:30 Moscow time - Ed.). The report showed that a man was shooting in a public place," said Podlaskie Voivodeship police officer Tomasz Krupa.

The soldier was detained by police and military gendarmerie officers. No injuries were reported.

The operational command specified that the incident occurred with a soldier of the 18th mechanized division, who, tentatively, was in a state of alcoholic intoxication. He left the unit unauthorized with his service weapon, fired at a civilian car and fled into the forest.

Earlier in the day in Montenegro, a man opened fire during a fight in a bar, seven people were killed. The shooter fled the scene, his identity was established.
