Putin instructed to work out a unified exam in Russian language for foreigners at universities

Russian President Vladimir Putin has instructed the government to submit proposals for the introduction of a single standardized entrance exam in the Russian language for foreign applicants. The list of instructions was published on the Kremlin website following a meeting of the Council for the implementation of state policy in the sphere of support for the Russian language and languages of the peoples of the Russian Federation.

The entrance test will concern those who apply for training under educational programs of higher education in Russian educational and scientific organizations.

The government will also have to submit proposals on defining unified requirements to the level of Russian language proficiency for mastering such programs, as well as to the procedure for conducting the entrance test.

The instruction of the head of state should be executed by May 1, 2025.

Earlier, December 24, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko said that in 2025, foreign students will be obliged to pass a test in Russian language for admission to Russian universities. According to his information, there are currently 380 thousand citizens from other countries studying there.
