MWM called the failure of Abrams tanks in Ukraine one of the most significant moments of 2024

The US military publication Military Watch Magazine (MWM) on January 1 compiled a ranking of the 10 most significant military events of 2024. One of them, according to the publication, is the destruction of M1A1 Abrams tanks from the United States by the Russian Armed Forces (AF).

"After Ukraine began receiving M1A1 Abrams tanks from the United States in September 2023, they were first seen on February 23, 2024, and the first loss was confirmed just three days after that, followed by a series of further losses over the next two months," the authors of the publication explained.

According to the piece, Western and Ukrainian sources considered the Abrams to be one of the decisive factors in the Ukrainian conflict. However, heavy losses have severely undermined the reputation of this armored vehicle, the publication writes.

Earlier, on December 30, it was reported that Russia got a rare opportunity to study the US M1A1 Abrams tank captured in Ukraine almost without damage.

Before that, on December 13, a Russian serviceman, a drone operator with the call sign Rassvet told Izvestia about his experience of destroying the first Abrams tank during a special operation.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the aggravated situation in the region.
