The Sovfed said it was impossible to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia

Russia cannot be strategically defeated - it must be negotiated with on equal terms. This was stated by the vice-speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev on January 1.
"Everyone should know: even when it is difficult for us, it is impossible to defeat Russia, especially a strategic defeat. We will have to negotiate with Russia, and on an equal footing," he wrote in his Telegram, talking about his expectations for 2025.
Kosachev emphasized that Russia is distinguished from a number of other countries as an established nation with its own values, interests, traditions and patterns that have been developed over centuries.
In addition, he added that Russia, in particular, through BRICS will develop real means of cooperation, protected from the arbitrariness of the West.
The vice-speaker of the Council of the Russian Federation expressed his desire to see an increase in independent states in the world that do not intend to sacrifice sovereignty for the sake of solidarity with NATO.
On the same day, political scientist and military analyst Vadim Mingalev spoke about the West's understanding that at the moment it seems impossible to defeat the Russian Federation on the battlefield, even by joining forces to support Ukraine. Against this background and the victory of US President-elect Donald Trump, the West may come to negotiations with Moscow.
Earlier, on December 3, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia's strategic defeat equals its destruction. Earlier, on November 7, Putin said that the goal of the United States is to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
