New Orleans mayor calls truck collision with crowd a terrorist attack

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell said Wednesday, Jan. 1, that a car hitting a crowd on Bourbon Street was a terrorist attack.

"We know that the city of New Orleans has suffered a terrorist attack," CNN quoted her as saying.

It is specified that at least 10 people were killed in the hit-and-run. Also in the shootout were wounded two police officers. Explosive devices were found at the scene of the tragedy, the FBI told Fox News.

Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry on his X page (former Twitter) called the incident a horrific act of violence and urged all New Orleans residents and tourists to avoid the French Quarter.

About the collision of a truck on a crowd of people in New Orleans became known earlier. It was reported that after that the driver got out and started shooting, and law enforcement returned fire. The total number of dead and injured is still being determined. The injured people were hospitalized.
