Compulsory registration of dogs has been introduced in the Leningrad Region. Cats will be allowed to be registered at will. This was announced on Wednesday, January 1, by the head of the Veterinary Department of the region Leonid Krotov.
"The regional law was adopted, which provides for mandatory identification of pets. Identification and registration of animals today is provided only by specialists of the state veterinary service in subordinate institutions, in any of our veterinary sites, hospitals, veterinary offices, veterinary stations a citizen can apply and receive the service of registration of a pet", - TASS quotes his words.
Under the new rules, dog owners are obliged to register their dogs within 30 days after reaching the age of three months. Dogs older than three months, purchased after January 1, 2025, must be registered within 30 days after purchase.
The animal's passport will include a number from the registry based on a chip number or biometric data (photo), which is free of charge to the owner. Kennels, pet volunteers and breeders are also required to register all their animals.
Earlier, on June 4, the Ministry of Natural Resources said that Russia may start assigning identification numbers to pets, and their owners will have to inform the federal state information system (FGIS) in the field of veterinary medicine. According to him, the Russian Federation will also make a universal database on stray animals
