Russian car owners from January 1, 2025 can apply for reimbursement under compulsory motor third party liability insurance (MTPL) through the insurer's website or mobile application. This was reported in the press service of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation.

"From January 1, 2025, car owners can apply for reimbursement under MTPL insurance through the insurer's website or through its mobile application, even if the accident occurred in 2024. This is stipulated by the law, which obliges companies to provide customers with electronic loss settlement services," the regulator said in its Telegram channel.

However, it added that the possibility of submitting documents to the insurer's office remains. According to the Central Bank, earlier insurers could accept the application only if the accident was formalized by electronic protocol or submitted through "Gosusgoservices".

As noted by the regulator, the car owner at any stage of settlement of losses under CMTPL insurance can change the form of interaction with the insurer. For example, from the online format to switch to personal communication in the office to provide documents, and then continue to communicate remotely.

Earlier, on December 25, the head of the All-Russian Union of Insurers (VSS) Evgeny Ufimtsev said that in 2025, the insurance community will discuss with government agencies to increase the limit of payments for CMTPL insurance. For example, in terms of increasing the payout for damage to life and health - up to 2 million rubles.
