In the US, lightning struck the Capitol and the Washington Monument on New Year's Eve

Lightning struck the U.S. Capitol on New Year's Eve. This was reported by The Washington Post on January 1.
"Photos posted on social media show lightning striking two of the most symbolic places in Washington and across the country. Direct strikes appear to have landed on both the top of the Washington Monument and the dome of the U.S. Capitol," the publication wrote.
Images of the natural phenomenon spread in American social networks. Internet users saw it as a "good omen" before the return to power of US President-elect Donald Trump.
In addition, footage of lightning striking the Empire State Building in New York was also published.
Earlier, on September 4, lightning struck the Triumphal Arch of Constantine, causing several fragments to break away from the monument. Then it was reported that just two days before the incident, the restoration of the southern front of the Arch of Constantine began.
