Dozens injured in Qatar subway crush

Several dozen people were injured in a crush at the entrance to the metro station after the end of New Year celebrations on January 1 in the suburbs of Qatar's capital Lusail. This was reported by RIA Novosti.
After the end of the festive program, spectators rushed to the nearest metro station to make it before its closure. The authorities extended the work of the subway until 02:00 local time (coincides with Moscow time), while the event ended at 01:00. Because of this, a huge crowd formed on the square and at the station itself and there was a crush.
It is noted that reinforced police units tried to contain the crowd, using batons and whips to drive people away from the fences. The fences were erected to regulate flows.
Police are also announcing over loudspeakers that the subway will operate around the clock on New Year's Eve, but the station is still surrounded by crowds trying to break through to the subway. The injured are being treated by doctors and paramedics, and additional ambulances have been called to the station.
Earlier, on December 19, as a result of a crush at a school fair in Nigeria killed 35 children. The stampede occurred at a school in the city of Ibadan, when participants rushed to get to the venue through the main gate.
