Chess players Nepomnyashchy and Carlsen shared the first place at the World Blitz World Cup

First place at the World Blitz Championship on January 1 was shared by Russian chess player Jan Nepomnyashchy and his Norwegian rival Magnus Carlsen. The tournament was held in New York, USA.

In the final match Nepomnyashchy and Carlsen won two games each, and there were draws in the additional games. The Norwegian chess player offered his rival to share the first place of the tournament. As noted in the International Chess Federation, the title of world champion was shared by two grandmasters for the first time.

Earlier, on December 31, Russian chess player Ekaterina Lagno became the bronze medalist of the World Blitz Championship in New York. Prior to that, the Russian chess player won the World Blitz Championship in 2018 and 2019.
