Russian chess player Lagno wins bronze at the World Blitz Championship

Russian chess player Ekaterina Lagno won bronze at the World Blitz Championship in New York on December 31.

Lagno lost to China's Lei Tingjie 2.5-3.5 in the semifinals. After the fourth game the score was 2:2, the fifth game ended in a draw, and in the sixth game the Chinese athlete won with black pieces.

Before that, the Russian chess player won the world blitz championship in 2018 and 2019.

Earlier in the day it became known that the chess player Jan Nepomnyashchy defeated Volodar Murzin and became a semi-finalist of the World Blitz Championship. Thanks to this victory, the chess player ensured himself at least a bronze medal of the World Cup. In the semifinal match Nepomnyashchy will face Wesley So from the USA.
