The crew of a Su-34 multirole supersonic fighter-bomber of the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) has struck a stronghold and manpower of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the border area of Kursk Region. This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on January 1.

After receiving confirmation from intelligence about the successful destruction of the target, the crew safely returned to the airfield of departure. The strike was carried out by aviation bombs with a universal planning and correction module (UMPK).

Earlier, on December 31, the Su-34 crew also struck an AFU stronghold and manpower. The Defense Ministry showed footage of the fighter jet striking the reconnaissance targets.

Prior to that, on December 30, crews of Su-35S multi-purpose super-maneuverable fighters with controlled thrust vector carried out air cover for the VKS crews in the Kursk border area. In addition, the aircraft detected the air defense facilities of the AFU with the help of a complex of aviation weapons.

The AFU attacked Russian positions in the border areas of Kursk Region on August 6. The situation in the region was recognized as a federal emergency. The liquidation of the Ukrainian militants who invaded the Russian territory is underway. In total, during the fighting in the Kursk direction the enemy has lost more than 45.5 thousand servicemen.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
