Media reported on the abolition of the death penalty in Zimbabwe

The death penalty has been abolished in the Republic of Zimbabwe. This was reported in The Herald newspaper on December 31.
"No death sentence, whenever imposed, shall be carried out," a statement from the law, which was signed into law on the same day, was quoted as saying.
The newspaper called the decision historic and noted that the document provides guidelines for reviewing the cases of prisoners who have been sentenced to death. Zimbabwe's Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi said the law "demonstrates the country's commitment to justice and humanity."
Earlier in the day, the media reported on the possibility of those accused of the September 11 terrorist attacks to avoid execution. It is noted that this gives the accused - the organizer of the terrorist attacks Khalid Sheikh Mohammad and his accomplices Walid bin Attash and Mustafa al-Hausawi - the opportunity at a hearing next week to plead guilty in exchange for life imprisonment. U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin will be able to challenge the court's decision.
