Chukotka warned of frost up to -40 degrees and wind up to 30 m/s on January 1

Strong wind with gusts up to 30 m/s, snowstorms and frost up to -40 degrees are predicted in the Chukotka regions on Wednesday, January 1. This was reported in the main department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in the region.

Thus, the east wind is expected on Wednesday, gusts of wind up to 15 m/s are possible. In the east of Chukotka, gusts will reach 20 m/s, in the area of Anadyr - 30 m/s, also predicted downstream snowstorm.

"The air temperature across the district is 10-15 degrees below zero, in some places from -25 to -30, in the continental part up to 40 frost," the department's interlocutors told TASS.

Rescuers advised residents and guests of the region not to leave the settlements, as well as not to approach dilapidated structures.

The day before, on December 31, a storm warning was announced in Anadyr, Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, due to strong wind with gusts up to 35-40 m/s.
